Diagnose before you buy

Common symptoms and what usually causes them

You do not need a part number to call us. Describe what the machine is doing and we will help you narrow it down — buying the right part once is cheaper than buying two.

Common sweeper & scrubber parts symptoms and likely causes
Symptom Where we would look first
Machine leaves a trail of water behind it Worn or nicked rear squeegee blade, a cracked vacuum hose, or a clogged recovery tank float. Flip or replace the blade first — it costs the least and fixes it most often.
Vacuum is weak or noisy Recovery tank lid gasket, a plugged float screen, or worn carbon brushes in the vac motor.
Floor is not getting clean Brush is worn past its wear indicator, or the wrong grade of brush for the soil. Grit brushes cut, nylon polishes.
Solution will not flow Solution solenoid valve or a plugged tank strainer. Hard water builds up in the valve seat faster than anyone expects.
Sweeper is throwing dust Panel filter is loaded or torn, or the hopper seals have hardened. Both are inexpensive.
Squeegee blade wears out in weeks Usually down pressure set too high or the wrong rubber compound. Linatex lasts longer on abrasive concrete than standard gum rubber.

General guidance only. Always follow the manufacturer's service manual and lock out equipment before working on it.

Why buy from us

A family shop with a global catalog behind it

Herb Grady Company has been supplying parts in Southern California since 1973 — today from Lake Elsinore. Four generations of the same family, an authorized TVH catalog, and an overhead structure lean enough that the savings reach you instead of a corporate margin target.

  • Family owned and operated

Herb Grady started this company in 1973. It passed to his son, then to his granddaughter Renee Heipley, who runs it today — with the fourth generation already in the building. That is why we still know which parts last and which ones come back.

  • Service that answers the phone

You get a person who knows material handling equipment, not a queue position. We help you diagnose before you buy, we tell you honestly when a part is backordered, and we call you back when we say we will.

  • Low overhead, passed straight through

We are not carrying a national sales force, a showroom or a marketing department. Our cost structure is lean on purpose, and the difference shows up on your invoice instead of somebody's quarterly target.

Straight answers

Sweeper & Scrubber Parts: your questions answered

Are aftermarket squeegee blades as good as the OEM ones?
Squeegee blades are a rubber extrusion cut to a pattern. A quality aftermarket blade in the correct compound performs identically to the branded one in the branded bag, and typically costs substantially less. Because blades are a repeat purchase — most operations flip or replace them monthly — the difference shows up every month rather than once.
Which squeegee rubber should I use: gum, linatex or urethane?
Gum rubber is the standard all-purpose choice and handles most retail and warehouse floors. Linatex (natural latex rubber) resists abrasion better and lasts longer on rough or sealed concrete. Urethane is the choice where oil, grease or solvents are present, because gum rubber swells and distorts in oil. Tell us what is on the floor and we will match the compound.
How do I know which brush grade to order?
Match the brush to the soil, not to the machine. Nylon for light soil and finished floors, polypropylene for general-purpose scrubbing, and grit-impregnated for heavy soil, tire marks and coating removal. Grit brushes cut aggressively and shorten finish life, so use them deliberately rather than by default.
Do you carry parts for older or discontinued machines?
Often, yes. This is where aftermarket sourcing outperforms a dealer parts counter — dealers eventually stop supporting a discontinued model, while the aftermarket keeps producing the consumables because the machines are still on floors. If you have a ten-year-old Tennant that your dealer has written off, call us before you replace the machine.
Can I get parts for a machine if I only know the brand?
We need the model and, ideally, the serial number — sweeper and scrubber manufacturers make many deck widths and squeegee lengths across a single model family. A photo of the data plate is the fastest way to get it right.
